Dr. Gene Harlan
Gene Harlan is the senior partner at Cotati Large Animal Hospital. He grew up in Fresno County on a dairy and beef farm where he first became interested in veterinary medicine. After working for a local large animal veterinarian for a number of years, Gene attended U.C. Davis. He graduated from veterinary school in 1973 and then went on to complete a yearlong internship in equine and bovine reproduction.
Gene helped establish the Preceptor Program which allows senior veterinary students to come to Cotati Large Animal and learn medicine in “real world” conditions. He is also past president of the Cattleman’s Association and has been a Sonoma County 4-H leader and Animal Health Advisor for the California Dept. of Food and Agriculture. In addition, Gene also received the 2007 Sonoma County Horse Council’s Equus Hall of Fame Award for 33 years of service in Sonoma County. Dr. Harlan is famous for his Equine Dentistry and working with Lamintic horses. He enjoys doing a mixed large animal practice. In his spare time, he raises beef cattle and enjoys riding his horse and mule.
Dr. Calvin Dotti
Dr. Calvin Dotti was born and raised in Sonoma County where his family has operated a dairy for over 60 years. Dr. Dotti graduated from Analy high school and went on to complete his undergraduate studies and veterinary school at U.C. Davis. Dr. Dotti has been at Cotati Large Animal for over 22 years and is also a partner in the practice alongside Dr. Harlan. His interests include dairy herd work at both organic and conventional dairies, and small ruminant and camelid medicine.
Dr. Dotti lives in Rohnert Park with his wife Christine and two kids Peter & Alex. In his free time, he enjoys water skiing and spending time at the lake on his boat with his family.
Dr. Sally Venable
Dr. Venable is originally from Ventura, CA. She majored in Biology at Willamette University in Salem, OR and then went on to get her veterinary degree from Ross University. After graduation Dr. Venable went on to do a food animal internship at Oklahoma State before moving to Sonoma County. She enjoys working on all large animal species but specializes in Equine wellness and lameness with an emphasis on performance horse soundness.
She has quite the collection of animals herself ranging from 3 mini Shetland sheep, chickens, some curious cats, and two dogs Alfie and Ellie. When not at work Dr. Venable enjoys spending time camping with her Husband Austin and two daughters or working on home projects together around their house in Forestville.

Dr. Emelie Roche
Dr. Roche was born in Sweden and raised in Petaluma, CA. Her family has owned their ranch in Petaluma for about 100 years. She began showing lambs for 4H in the fifth grade and continues to maintain a small herd of Dorset sheep on her ranch today. She grew up riding horses and furthered that interest in college. She studied Animal Science/Equine Science at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and earned her DVM from UC Davis. She loves working on all large animals but especially enjoys working on sheep/goats and horses. In her free time, Emelie enjoys hiking and hanging out with her sassy cat Luna.
Dr. Hannah Jasperse
Dr. Hannah Jasperse was born in Missouri and raised in Ventura County, CA, where she was very involved in equine rescue and sanctuary programs throughout her adolescence. She pursued a double major in Spanish and Biology at Calvin University in Michigan. She then went on to receive her DVM from UC Davis with a focus in large animal medicine. She has traveled and lived in Latin America for various periods throughout her life, helping her develop a passion for and high proficiency in Spanish. She has a particular interest in surgery and enjoys working on all large animal species, but her favorites are South American camelids and small ruminants. In her free time, she enjoys hiking and other outdoor activities with her spunky dog Belén, crafting at home with her two cats, and is actively involved in her church.
Dr. Kelsie Kennicutt
Dr. Kelsie Kennicutt was born and raised in a small rural community called Wilton, CA. She grew up riding horses and raising livestock for 4-H and FFA. She had a small cow calf operation and sold her calves to 4-H members in the community. She completed her undergraduate and veterinary degrees at UC Davis. Dr. Kennicutt enjoys working with all of our 4-legged friends, but has a special interest in small ruminants and ultrasound imaging.
In her free time, she enjoys riding her horse, Peanut, and hiking with her two dogs, Sven and Gabi. Among all of these living creatures, she also enjoys keeping her garden and 40 house plants alive.
Dr. Hannah Case
Dr. Hannah Case is originally from San Diego, CA. She grew up raising and showing livestock through her local 4-H chapter and her family has a background in cattle and sheep ranching in Montana, which started her love of large animal medicine. She studied Human Biology at Stanford University and received her veterinary degree from UC Davis. She has a passion for large animal medicine, both livestock and equine, with a special interest in beef cattle, equine lameness, and all things surgical.
In her down time, Dr. Case enjoys hiking and camping with her husband, Akbash (Bennie), and Border Collie Mix (Charlotte). She also likes trail running and spending time with family in Montana.
